Heresy refers to ideas that differ from correct traditional doctrine. However, 2,000 years ago, the Jews slandered the gospel of Christ, calling it the Nazarene heresy. In fact, they did not realize that they were walking the path of opposing God, but instead criticized Apostle Paul, who preached the gospel of Christ, as the chief of heresy.

Acts 24:4~9 But in order not to weary you further, I would request that you be kind enough to hear us briefly. “We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene sect 6and even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him. By examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges we are bringing against him.” The other Jews joined in the accusation, asserting that these things were true.

At that time, they committed this foolishness because they did not understand the prophecies of the Bible. If you had thought based on the prophecies of the Bible and the word of God written in the Bible, you would not have made such a mistake.

Even today, rather than using the Bible as a standard, people often vaguely believe that the doctrines that many people have been following for a long time are orthodox, and say that anything that differs from those doctrines is 'heresy.' However, if we look at the history of 2,000 years ago, such thinking is greatly mistaken.

The only true standard for distinguishing between orthodoxy and heresy is the Bible, which contains the Word of God. Orthodoxy is to properly believe in the prophecies of the Bible and live according to God's teachings recorded in the Bible, and to do otherwise is heresy.

2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

God's people must have the wisdom to distinguish between orthodoxy and heresy based only on the prophecies of the Bible and the word of God contained in the Bible, not on the words of men or common sense.
