God chose Moses and gave a lot of power to perform many great things in front of people. By performing many miraculous things he could set the Israelites free from the slavery of Egypt. Before the eyes of people he divided the Red Sea by stretching out the staff in his hand. He knew that he could do all these things all because of God. God granted him the power and authority for all those things.

He was perfectly aware of the fact. Also as the bible says, he was the most humble person and he always gave glory to God. And he made effort to reveal the holiness of God all the time. However, once he credited the honor for the great work to himself. Out of distress for the stubborn and disobedient people of Israel, he must have wanted to show people the great power he could perform. And he might have thought that the Isrealites might listen to him if they saw the miracles coming from him.

Whatever the reason might be, he made a great mistake that he should never had made in any circumstances. He gave glory to himself, rather than to God.

Numbers 20:9 So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as he commanded him. 10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

The result for this arrogant behavior in front of God was irrevocable. Because of this reckless behavior and words he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land Canaan. He was allowed to see the land from the top of Mountain Nebo. Through this story we must realize that it is not us, but God who must receive all the glory and honor.

When we forget this and give glory to us, we cannot receive blessings from God. God is the only one who deserve all glory and honor. Therefore, we should always display the holiness of God.
