In the Law of Moses people of Israel sacrificed animals as offerings to God. And in the Law of Christ, Christ taught us that we should worship God in spirit and in truth. Today, churches have worship services instead of burnt offerings to worship God. The offerings in the old covenant have changed to the worship services in the new covenant. Then what is the purpose of the offerings and worship services? Why is it important for us?

Today there are many who think that worship services at the appointed times and with appointed regulations are not important anymore. Consequently, we don’t have to attend formal services done at churches anymore. What is important is your mind and your faith toward God. If you have firm faith in God, you will be saved through your faith. Is this true? Is it not necessary for us to have worship services to God? Let us find out the answer through the bible.

According to the bible, we are sinners from the heaven. And the sins can be forgiven only by shedding blood. (Hebrews 9:22) That is why God commanded the people of Israel to sacrifice animals by shedding the blood. However, Jesus came as the reality of the sacrificial animals and he shed his blood. For this reason, we don’t have to sacrifice animals anymore. Instead, we should have worship services through which we can take part in the blessings Christ promised by shedding his own blood. In this sense, worship services are very important for our salvation.

2000 years ago, Jesus came to seek and save the children of God who got lost from heaven.

Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Then what kind of people was he seeking to save?

John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

God is seeking true worshippers who worship God in spirit and in truth. When we put the two verses together, we can conclude that God is seeking people who worship God and they are the ones who would be saved by God. Therefore, worshipping God is essential for our salvation. Also, what is not less important is the kind of services we have.

The Sunday worship or Christmas is not the services commanded by God. God commanded us to keep the Sabbath Day and the Passover with promises of forgiveness and eternal life. Let us worship God in spirit and in truth through the worship services.
