Bible compares the last day to the time of Noah and Lot. In those days, there was great disasters that destroyed the world of the time. In the time of Noah, God destroyed the whole world with water. In those days, however, to Noah who was considered as a righteous man in the eyes of God, God commanded to build an ark to save him and his household. Even though the whole world got destroyed with water, Noah and his family could save themselves by the ark Noah built.

In the time of Lot, too, God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire. Even though the whole cities got destroyed with fire, Lot who earned favor of God could flee to Zoar, a place God prepared to save Lot and his family.

2000 years ago, Jesus compared the last days to the time of Noah and Lot. (Luke 17:26) What should we learn from these episodes? Through these stories Jesus is giving warnings to people that there would be the great disaster that would destroy the whole world. Apostle Peter says that the whole world we now know would melt with fire and nothing would be left behind after the disaster. The bible prophesies over this last and great disaster over and over.

We can be assured of this disaster in the last day. But this is not the whole story. What Jesus really wanted to say to us was not the destruction of the whole world by the disaster. He wanted to teach us a more important message through those stories, that is, the news of salvation. In the time of disasters God always prepared the way of salvation for His people like the ark for Noah and the city of Zoar for Lot.

This is the same with us. When God gives us the warning for the impending disaster, what he actually wants to teach us the way of salvation God prepared for His people. Then in the time of the great disaster in the last day, what is the ark of salvation that we should flee to to save ourselves? The bible teaches that we should flee to Zion in the time of disasters.



Jeremiah 4:5 “Announce in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem and say: ‘Sound the trumpet throughout the land!’ Cry aloud and say: ‘Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities!’ 6 Raise the signal to go to Zion! Flee for safety without delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, even terrible destruction.”

According to this prophecy, God already announced an imminent destruction that would destroy the whole world. However, God also prepared the ark of salvation for His people, Zion. And He teaches us that we should flee to Zion immediately without delay in the time of disasters. Now we can see the disasters taking place around us. Everyday, we hear the news of disasters and we can feel the impending destruction and judgment of God.

In this time of disasters what is the place that we should go? It is Zion, the city of God’s festivals. (Isaiah 33:20) When God gives us warnings, He always gives us answers too so that we can be saved out of the disasters. Now we should go to Zion where we can keep the festivals of God. Through the festivals in Zion, God grants the blessings of the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 26:28) and eternal life (John 6:53) by protecting us from all the disasters.
