The Appointed Festivals of God and the Sabbath

God established specific times for His people to gather as sacred assemblies. The seventh-day Sabbath (Saturday) is the weekly feast that Jesus and the apostles kept as their custom, rather than Sunday.

Leviticus 23:2-3 "These are my appointed festivals... The seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly."

Luke 4:16 "He [Jesus] went to Nazareth... and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom."

The Core of Salvation: Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread

The Passover is the feast that grants the forgiveness of sins and eternal life, while the Feast of Unleavened Bread commemorates Jesus’ suffering on the cross. Unlike man-made traditions like Christmas, the Passover is the New Covenant established by Jesus Himself.

Luke 22:15, 20 "He said to them, 'I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.' ... 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood...'"

1 Corinthians 5:7 "For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival..."

Resurrection Day (Firstfruits) and Pentecost

Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of the Day of Firstfruits by becoming the first to rise from the dead. Fifty days later, on the Pentecost, the early church received the power of the Holy Spirit, fulfilling the Old Testament Feast of Weeks.

1 Corinthians 15:20 "But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep."

Acts 2:1-4 "When the day of Pentecost came... All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues..."

Autumn Feasts: Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles

The final three feasts in the sacred calendar are centered on repentance, the transfer of sins (Atonement), and the joy of receiving the "living water" of the Holy Spirit (Tabernacles).

Leviticus 23:24, 27 "On the first day of the seventh month... a day of sabbath rest... commemorated with trumpet blasts. The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement."

John 7:37-39 "On the last and greatest day of the festival [Tabernacles], Jesus stood and said... 'Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink... By this he meant the Spirit...'"

Conclusion: Restoring the Forgotten Truth

Though these feasts were abolished by the 4th century (Council of Nicaea, 325 AD), they have been restored in the World Mission Society Church of God. Following Jesus' example by keeping these weekly and annual feasts is the only way to receive God’s promised blessings.
