An Inconvenient Truth about the Lord’s Day – Is the Lord’s Day Sunday?
We see many people going to church on Sundays, saying “We keep the Lord’s Day.” Um…the Lord’s Day? In the past, I thought the Lord’s Day was Sunday like many people. However, now I realized an inconvenient truth about the Lord’s Day.
Christians insist that Sunday was kept since the Apostolic Age and present the following verse as evidence:
I, John… On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit… (Revelation 1:9-10)
The Apostle John said he was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day. Christians claim that the Lord’s Day is Sunday. However, you will not find any verse which confirms their insistence. In other words, there isn’t any single verse which authorizes that the Lord’s Day is Sunday.
Then, what does the Bible say about this Day? Let’s find out which day of the week is the Lord’s Day through the Bible.
In the age of the Old Testament, the Lord was Jehovah. Then, what is the day of Jehovah?
Then the LORD [Jehovah] said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy… (Exodus 31:12-13)
The Lord said, “You must observe MY SABBATHS.” From this verse, we can easily understand that the day of the Lord or Jehovah is the Sabbath day. The Sabbath day is the seventh day of the week and it’s Saturday in our calendar system (see this YouTube video.)
In the age of the New Testament, the Lord is Jesus. Even in the age of the New Testament, the Lord’s Day is the Sabbath not Sunday.
For the Son of Man [Jesus] is Lord of the Sabbath. (Matthew 12:8)
Since Jesus said, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath,” it’s obvious that the Lord’s Day is the Sabbath. Some claim that the Sabbath was abolished because it’s a feast of the Old Covenant. Unfortunately, they misunderstand the Bible. Jesus came to the earth to fulfill the Law.
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law of the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them (Matthew 5:17)
That is to say, Jesus changed the Old Covenant to the New Covenant to fulfill the Law. For this reason, He set an example by keeping the Sabbath day in the manner of the New Covenant not of the Old Covenant:
He [Jesus] went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him… (Luke 4:16-17)
He showed us how to give service to God on the Sabbath day. The disciples and apostles also kept the Sabbath day by following the example set by Jesus (Acts 17:2-3; Acts 18:4.) Then, why do most Christians not observe the Sabbath day although Jesus and His disciples kept this day? This fact is also written in the Bible.
He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints and try to change the set times and the laws… (Daniel 7:25)
Who will be against the Most High, that is, God? It’s Satan. It’s prophesied that Satan would try to change the set times and the laws. The NLT version, of this verse says, “He will try to change their sacred festivals and laws.” According to this prophecy, the New Covenant including the Sabbath day had been destroyed (see this post.)
Then, who can bring us the lost Sabbath day again for our salvation? Who is the Lord of the Sabbath day? God (Christ) is the Lord of the Sabbath day. Therefore, only God (Christ) is able to bring us the Sabbath day again because this day belongs to Him.
In this age, the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) keeps the New Covenant including the Sabbath day. What does this mean? The Lord of the Sabbath day has already come and you can meet Him in the Church of God. Christ Ahnsahnghong has brought us the Sabbath day and the Passover to restore the ruined New Covenant according to the prophecy of the Bible.
Christians think the Lord’s Day is important. However unfortunately, many of them keep the wrong day instead of the true Lord’s Day. Will God be pleased if we keep the wrong day instead of the true Lord’s Day? God has come to restore the destroyed New Covenant and to lead us to the kingdom of heaven. Please keep the true Lord’s Day, that is the Sabbath day in the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG).
