Offerings God Is Pleased With

Today there are so many people in the world who have faith in God. And there are so many different customs and regulations people obey to worship God. Are all the worships equally good and will be blessed by God? If a worship is given to God the Creator, then the regulations it takes is not important?

Most people would think as such. They might think if my worship is given to God does it make any difference for the service to take different form? God know my heart and he know that the worship is given only to him. All these sound reasonable. Therefore, many conclude that what is important is not the outward formal things such as service and regulations in worshiping God. Rather it is our heart and faith toward God.

However, is this true? Even though this kind of thinking seems reasonable, if it is not the will of God, we should not follow it. To know the will of God for the worship, we have to take a look at the bible and find out examples so that we can be sure which is true.

In the bible, we can read a story of Cain and Abel. Both of them wanted to worship God. Cain gave offerings to God with the grains he grew in the field. And Abel offered an animal sacrifice by shedding the blood of the animal. Both of them had the same mindset that they sought to worship God through the offerings.

However, what was the results of the offerings? Cains offering was rejected because God was not pleased with the offering. However, God joyfully accepted the offering of Abel.

Genesis 4:2 Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

Then why did God accepted Abel’s offering, but not Cain’s? Was God showing favoritism in terms of Cain and Abel? In the Book of Hebrews Paul explains the reason for it.

Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

God was pleased with Abel, calling him righteous. It was because of what he offered. By faith Abel obeyed God and sacrifice animals as offerings by shedding the blood. However, Cain offered what he grew in the field out of his own opinion. God taught both Cain and Abel about the regulations related to offerings to God. Just as the Book of Hebrews testifies “without the shedding of blood there was no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9:22) Obeying the commands of God, Abel offered animal sacrifice shedding the blood. However, Cain disobeyed and he offered what he thought was good in his own eyes.

This story of Cain and Abel teaches us one important lesson: What is important is not offerings, but the way it is offered. For the offerings, God gave appointed times, manners, and the things that should be offered. When we offer what is lawful in the eyes of God, God will be pleased with our offerings and he will bless us.

In the chronicles of kings of Israel there was a king who sinned greatly to God. His name was Jeroboam and he is frequently mentioned as the one who led the kings of Israel after him in the wrong way. All other kings after him did the same thing as Jeroboam and sinned against God. Then what was the sin of Jeroboam? God gave the festivals and regulations pertained to the festivals that Israelites should obey in worshiping God.

However, Jeroboam set his own times and dates along with his own regulations in the worship of God, saying to the people that it was the right way of worshiping God. This angered God greatly and became the cause of the fall of Israel in the end.

I Kings 12:31 Jeroboam built shrines on high places and appointed priests from all sorts of people, even though they were not Levites. 32 He instituted a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the festival held in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar. This he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves he had made. And at Bethel he also installed priests at the high places he had made. 33 On the fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of his own choosing, he offered sacrifices on the altar he had built at Bethel. So he instituted the festival for the Israelites and went up to the altar to make offerings.

Jeroboam disobeyed God and broke all the regulations related to the offerings. He set his own priests, his own dates and his own regulations. Apparently the offerings was given to God, but God was not pleased with his offerings.

Today let us think about the offerings done in the churches around the world. Are those worship pleasing in the eyes of God? Sunday worship? Christmas? Setting up a Cross as symbol of Christ’s sacrifice and the church? Thanksgiving? Will God be pleased with all these teachings and regulations coming from man’s custom, not from the teachings of God? Definitely God is not pleased with these practices done in the churches of God.

We should listen to the voice of God and obey. Then God will bless us abundantly, even with eternal life. We should give offerings God is pleased with. And God will call us righteous just like Abel.

Believe in God and live according to God’s will.
You cannot believe in God on your own.
Whose will is it to keep the Sabbath and Passover? If you believe in God, keep God’s commandments according to His words.

We can keep the law of God,  the New Covenant by believing in Elohim God. When we keep the law of God, we can meet our savior of this age who came in the flesh.  It means that only those who recognize Elohim God can keep the New Covenant and receive salvation.

If you love God, you must obey the rules set by God.
Sunday worship, Christmas, Setting up a Cross as symbol of Christ’s sacrifice and the church, Thanksgiving all of which are not ordered by God.
In the church of God established by God, you can receive true God's teaching.

It must be the faith that allows us to do what God tells us to do.
I shouldn’t put my thoughts and opinions first. whatever it is.
