Today, there are so many people who claim to know God and be the children of God. We can become the children of God not because we want to be, but when we are approved by God as children. Then how can we be the children of God? We have to find the answer to this question through the bible, which contains God’s answers for all the spiritual questions.

Then who are the children of God according to the bible? The bible defines the children of God as the children of promise.

Galatians 4:28 Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.

The bible teaches that only those who receive the promise from God can be called God’s children. Then what is the promise of God God gave to His children.

1 John 2:25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

God promised eternal life to His children and thus only those who receive eternal life from God can be called the children of God who can enter the kingdom of heaven.

Now the second question we have to ask is “Did we receive the promise of eternal life from God?” Many says that they received the eternal life from God through the faith in Jesus Christ. This might be true, but how can we be sure that this is the right answer? We also have to prove this assumption through the bible.

2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

We should put our thoughts and opinions above the words of God; we have to test every conjecture we have through the words of God to know if it is true or not. Then what does the bible say about eternal life? Does the bible say that we can have eternal life through the faith in Jesus Christ?

Jesus himself testified about eternal life that we may know how to become the children of promise.

John 6:53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

Jesus teaches that we can have eternal life when we eat his flesh and drink his blood. This is the direct teaching of Jesus Christ and therefore we have to obey to the words of Jesus to receive eternal life, don’t we?

Then how can we eat his flesh and drink his blood to have eternal life? On the day of Passover Jesus taught his disciple about the regulations of eating his flesh and drinking his blood?

Matthew 26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Jesus teaches on the night of the Passover that the Passover bread represents his flesh and the Passover wine his blood. When we eat the bread and drink the wine of the Passover, we can eat from the flesh and blood of Jesus and we can have the promise of eternal life Jesus promised to the children of God.

This is the teaching of God and Jesus Christ about eternal life. If then, what should we do to have eternal life? We have to keep the Passover. Then did you keep the Passover? If you did, we are under the promise of God of eternal life through the mercy of God. If you did not, you did not receive the promise of eternal life from God even though we might have faith in Jesus.

Just because you believe that you have eternal life through the faith in Jesus, you do not become the children of promise who can receive eternal life. Out of faith in Jesus you have to keep the Passover and then you can receive the promise of God. That is why the bible says that we have to put our faith into practice. The faith of those who do not show their faith through the action is dead and they can receive salvation.

Now we come to know the will of God for our salvation. God promised eternal life through the Passover. To be the children of promise we have to keep the Passover. Come to the Church of God and keep the Passover and then you can receive the promise of God, which will qualify you to be the children of God.
