As children we cannot fathom the love of our parents. Literally through their flesh and blood, they give life to the children. And still more, to raise them to be a grown-up, they go through many more sufferings and pains. Even more amazing is their attitude for all these hardships they have to endure for the children. They are more than willing to accept these tribulations all for the love of their children.

They feel happy despite so many hardships when their children are happy. Their life is wholly dedicated to their children as if they live for the children.

They are just like one of us. They must have their own dreams. They must have their own ambitions. They must have their own desires. But always their first priorities are given to their children. They sacrifice everything for the love of their children.

They are just like one of us. However, how come they always think of others first in terms of the children? Where does their love come from?

In the Talmud, there is a saying that God could not be everywhere, and therefore He made mothers. This is so much true. What is also true is that when God created mothers, He put His love in them that they may take care of the children with the love God gave them. This saying sheds light on the love of parents, especially mother, toward the children.

Then what was the intention or the will of God in creating a mother? In Romans, the bible says everything on this earth was given to us to teach the invisible spiritual world. This means through the love and sacrifice of the physical parents God wanted to teach us about the love and sacrifice of the spiritual parents, God the Father and God the Mother.

Just as the physical parents give life to the children through their flesh and blood, the spiritual parents, God the Father and God the Mother, give the spiritual life to the children through their flesh and blood.

Matthew 26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Through the Passover God gives his flesh and blood to his children. And for the children who received His flesh and blood God sacrificed himself even to the point of death by shedding his precious blood on the cross.

Isaiah plainly explains all the sufferings and pains God was to go through just because of His love for the disobedient children.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

We are the ones who did wrong and be punished, but God took up all our iniquities and sins and suffered in our stead that we may receive the forgiveness of sins. They were willing to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the children.

When God said to the children as a Commandment, “Love your parents”, God wanted to teach us also about the love toward our spiritual parents too. Now Let us give thanks and honor to God deserving for their love and grace for our salvation. Now let us obey the words of God to the end. We have to remember that we make them go through the same suffering all over again when we disobey the words of God.
