God teaches us to be holy. We as children of God should be holy since God our Father and Mother are holy.

Leviticus 19:2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.

According to the bible, we as God’s chosen people should be holy. Then the question is “Are we holy to be the people of God?” Many of the testimonies of the bible shows that we are not holy. Rather, we are described as impure and unholy because of our wrongdoings and transgression. We are stained red and black because of our sins.

Job 25:4 How then can a mortal be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure? 5 If even the moon is not bright and the stars are not pure in his eyes, 6 how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot—a human being, who is only a worm!”

We are despicable and detestable like a worm or a maggot. We are never worthy enough to be called holy. Even though we are grave sinners, however, God promised us the forgiveness of sins through His grace.

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

Then how can a sinner be made holy resembling the image of God? According to the bible God gave us his commands that we can be made holy. For example, the Sabbath is a festival of God. Through the Sabbath Day God promised that He would make His people Holy when they keep the Sabbath day.

Exodus 31:13 “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.

God is working to make His people holy through the Sabbath Day. When God’s people keep the Sabbath Day holy, they are made holy to be the people of God. The same goes with the Passover. Even though we are sinners who committed grave sins, through the Passover God is making us clean and pure by granting us the forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Let us keep the commands of God and participate in the promises God has allowed through the festivals. Then even though we are not pure and holy, God will cleanse us that we may be holy as the children of God.
