Enlightenment from the subject “Trinity”
I would like to write about what I realized from the topic “Trinity” at the World Mission Society Church of God. I’m sure you must have heard about the concept of the Trinity, at least, once, if you are a Christian. I’m very familiar with the word “Trinity”, because I, myself, have been a Christian for a long time. However, I could not explain what it was.
Trinity, in the dictionary, means that God the Father Jehovah, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one. Many Christians call on the name “Jesus”, but they do not know who he is, in nature. I was like that before. Each denomination has its own interpretation of the Trinity. Some people regard Jesus as a mere creature, like one of us, one of the angels in heaven, or just a being, one with God in purpose and will. It was even more difficult for me to understand about the “Holy Spirit”, let alone the concept of the Trinity.
The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) clearly explained what the Trinity is. Contemporary Christians argue that God the Father Jehovah, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit are three different entities sharing one purpose and will. They just regurgitate the definition of the Trinity from a dictionary and it doesn’t help me to understand it any better. On the contrary, Church of God taught me that God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are actually one and that They use different names in each age in accordance with the providence of God. It made so much sense to me. They also likened the Trinity to how water changes states, roles and names at different temperatures; Water is in the form of gas when it is above 100 celsius, in the form of liquid when it is between 0~100 celsius and in the form of a solid when it is below 0 celsius. Water in different states has different names, but is the same in its chemical formula – H2O.
In the same way, God the Father Jehovah, God the Son Jesus and God the Holy Spirit are all one God, though They may have different names and roles.
It was really comforting to clearly understand the concept of the Trinity. Then, I just needed to confirm everything they explained through the bible. But, I was wondering why so many churches interpreted who Jesus is, so differently. They told me that there are prophecies about Jesus, and that it is difficult to understand him because he is described as God, the Son of God, a servant or a prophet, depending on the context of the bible. I was first shown that Father Jehovah and the Son Jesus are one.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The book of Isaiah prophesies often about Jesus. They said that I can confirm that Jesus and Jehovah are one God through verses in the book of Isaiah. They asked me “Who is the everlasting Father?” Then, I replied, “Of course, God the Father is the everlasting Father.” The bible clearly testifies that Jesus came down to this Earth as the Son, but he is ,in fact, God the Father Jehovah. It is testified as follows:
Philippians 2:5~8 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped. But made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!
This is one of my favorite verses in the bible. This verse (“Who, being in very nature God…”) clearly reveals the true identity of Jesus. Why did I not realize that Jesus and Jehovah are one through this verse, before? I was spiritually blind. At the same time, I remembered that the Father and the Son are both alpha and omega, which means that They are one.
Revelation 1:8 I(Jehovah) am the Alpha and the Omega.
Revelations 22:13,16 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End… I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches.
Alpha and omega are the first and the last letters of the Ancient Greek alphabet. It shows that God is the beginning and the end. When they asked me “If Jesus is the son of God, can he have the same beginning with God the Father?”, I could not answer. I had never thought about this question.
I’d never realized that the fact that God the Father Jehovah and the Son Jesus are one, which means that Jehovah is Jesus. Many other verses in the bible also prove that God the Father Jehovah and Jesus are one God. I was also shown verses that prove that God the Father Jehovah and the Holy spirit are one God.
1 Corinthians 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? It makes perfect sense. The Spirit of God knows the thoughts of God. Therefore, he must be God.
1 Corinthians 2:10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
The Holy Spirit knows the deep thoughts of God the Father Jehovah. In other words, Jehovah and the Holy Spirit are one God. I’d never understood the bible so clearly like this. Lastly, I was shown that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Jesus and the Holy Spirit are both the Counselor. So They are one. I realized so many things I’d failed to see before. I always had the fixed idea that Jesus and Jehovah are two separate Gods. However, after studying the subject “Trinity”, I can now see that I had a lot of misconceptions from wrong teachings. One brother asked me the following question: Do you truly believe that it was Jesus who divided the red sea?
I replied “Yes, of course.”
He asked me again, “Do you believe that God the Holy Spirit was crucified 2000, years ago?”
I wondered a bit and replied “Yes, I do.”
It made me realize how much effort God had put into His plan for our salvation. I am full of joy whenever I think of that moment of enlightenment. I feel like I’ve realized a great mystery in the bible.
